Step 1: Student Visa (Subclass 500)

This visa actually allows you to study a full-time CRICOS-approved course and also let you stay in Australia. It also provides access to post-study work arrangements, being a direct route to PR in the future.

  • Admission into a full-time CRICOS-approved course

     

  • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (PTE/TOEFL)

     

  • Financial documents showing your ability to sponsor yourself

     

  • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement

     

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

     

  • Medical & police clearance
  • Valid passport

     

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

Application Timeline:

Typically it actually takes 4 to 12 weeks, depending on your course, university, and visa stream.

Once you actually complete your study, you can then also apply for a Post-Study Work or Graduate Work Visa, which will truly enable you to stay in Australia and acquire Australian work experience, literally an essential prerequisite for most PR streams.

    • Requires state or territory nomination
    • 5 points extra for nomination
    • Occupation must be in truly State Skilled Occupation List
  3. Truly Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)
    • Requires regional area nomination
    • Validity of 5 years
    • Leads to PR after 3 years of work and residence in a regional area by Subclass 191

PR Requirements for Indian Citizens:

  • Age less than 45 on invitation
  • Minimum of 65 points on PR calculator (extra marks increase likelihood of success)
  • Satisfactory skills evaluation by a genuine assessing authority
  • IELTS results of 6.0 across all bands (extra marks increase points)

  • The profession should be in MLTSSL, STSOL, or regional lists
